About "Close Enough"
Built for entertaining and relaxation, this spectacular coastal home has a pier with a gazebo, and under it rests a 10-foot-long custom picnic table that seats eight people.  The house has an elevator, and there is also a rolling stainless steel cart inside for outdoor dinner parties.

Art and photographs abound in a display that could possibly be a museum exhibit for the beaches of yesteryear.  Throughout the home is a cumulative collection of old-style surf boards, and vintage surf art.

The first level
Walking up one flight of stairs from the entrance off the three-car garage, the first level of the home is the sleeping quarters.  The first room is a little girls paradise with nautical toile wallpaper in green and white, picturing animals on the beach.  The furniture is white maple, with a bunk bed and a trundle for friends.  The adjacent bathroom features white and black vintage ceramic tile.  The shower is done in white subway tile with an inset of ceramic tiles adorned with sea animals.  Through the door is a guest room with olive-colored walls and pine furniture.  Cotton linens dress the maple bed, and a porch with sliding doors invites visitors to step out for a breath of fresh air.  Thin, stainless-steel railing assures an unobstructed view of the canal.

Across the hall is the master suite, complete with maple furniture and a super-snug down duvet, a reassuring comfort after a harsh day outdoors.  The brown-toned master bath features handmade mirrors.  There's also a strong consistency among the design details throughout the house.  The tub is ceramic tile with front beadboarding, also featured on the doors and cabinets in many other rooms of the home.  Travertine tile lines the floor and walls.  Of course, there are touches that stand out.  A four-light, wood-carved chandelier with pink shades hangs from above, accented by pink monogrammed towels.

The Great Room
"Close Enough's" Great Room on the third floor is the home's centerpiece.  Australian cypress flooring and sturdy maple furniture, accented by white plantation shutters, add a comfortable yet elegant touch, and the large pine beams in the high ceiling give a warm, rustic feel.  Immense sliding glass doors with three small cottage windows on top provide a magnificent view of the gazebo and canal, something to enjoy watching much more than the television.

Gourmet Kitchen
The home has strong beach influences.  In the kitchen, maple cabinets stretch to the beams of the ceiling.  Some have glass fronts.  The focal point of the room is a 9-foot island, the gathering spot during get-togethers.  A maple hood, stainless  steel appliances, a backsplash of Italian tumbled tile and granite countertops round out the look.  The view in front of the farmhouse sink with two basins showcases an expansive view of the ocean, a real motivation for housework - you won't mind doing the dishes at all.

Another Guest Room
This one features maple furniture and soft, cotton linens with tropical colors and patterns.  It's blue all over, even on the ceiling.  Inside the adjoining bathroom is a jetted spa shower, a granite sink with maple cabinets and oil rubbed bronze fixtures, and travertine tile lining the shower walls.  Vintage art includes an old photograph of Carolina Beach and the words, "If you're lucky enough to be on the beach, you're lucky enough".

The Fourth Floor
Going up the illuminated beadboard flanked staircase to the fourth floor is one of the home's best features.  The crow's nest is a place for the kid's to play games or watch movies on the large, L-shaped couch that pulls out to make a queen-sized bed.  Enclosed in a large pine armoire, the TV with a DVD player and VCR emits audio into the surround sound system.  Blackout shades in wide, bright stripes of cranberry, light green and white on the 11 windows are great to keep the room cool or to draw before taking a nap.  Seashell valances sport the same color scheme.  A wicker glass coffee table has a removable top that is full of sand and seashells.  A dry bar sits in the corner.  An iron palm tree chandelier and nickel brushed stainless steel faucet punctuate the room.

The Crow's Nest offers panoramic views of the island.  Watch the sun rise in the early morning with a cup of coffee and the newspaper, or relax on the couch during the evening and watch the glorious sunset over the water until it disappears behind the trees.
